The Orthodontic Center of NYC, located on the Upper East Side (Manhattan, New York), is the recognized leader in “airway orthodontics”. Airway orthodontics seeks to improve the overall health of both children and adults by using state-of-the-art orthodontics to increase oxygen intake. Essentially, airway orthodontics seeks to identify why children and adults are not getting enough oxygen – which manifests itself as a medial condition (see full list below) – and then aims to remedy the medical condition by expanding the airway with specificity orthodontics.
- Dr. Michael Gelb is the Founder of the Foundation for Airway Health and literally wrote the quintessential book on airway health and airway orthodontics: Gasp!: Airway Health – The Hidden Path To Wellness

Are you struggling with health problems such as fatigue, excess weight, headaches, chronic pain, sugar and junk food cravings, or with stress in general? Do you have a child with behavioral issues, chronic infections, allergies or asthma? Is your doctor treating you or your child for a chronic disease like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, insomnia, anxiety, or depression?
What if you discovered that what’s driving all of these conditions is something that is rarely considered by today’s medical practitioners? The condition is called an “Airway-Centered Disorder”, or ACD. Airway-Centered Disorder (ACD) is a hidden airway problem and can affect breathing 24 hours a day – including and especially during sleep. Airway-Centered Disorder impacts how we breathe because it increases the amount of effort we put into breathing just to survive.
- We champion the recognition, diagnosis and treatment of airway-related disorders
Children: Early intervention is ideal as the brain is developing. Breastfeeding and frenum inspection helps develop the airway and shrinks tonsils and adenoids. Early palatal expansion, offered at the Orthodontic Center of NYC, will make more room for the tongue, while at the same time help enlarge the nasal airway. Myofunctional therapy is a useful adjunct to adenotonsillectomy and palatal expansion.
Teens & Adults: Palatal expansion and/or oral appliances will be indicated for the treatment
